Could lab-grown meat actually be worse for the planet?
Some US$2 billion (RM8.9 billion) dollars have already been invested in cultured meat technology. However, research from the University of California may have thrown a spanner in the works by challenging the ecological argument that often supports the legitimacy of this kind of research. In fact, lab-grown meat could be up to 25 times more harmful to the planet than regular beef.

Brands are increasingly challenged to produce great tasting foods that deliver less sugar and salt. This is especially true as front-of-pack labeling schemes like the Nutri-Score become more widespread worldwide. In the UK, foods that are too high in fat, salt or sugar (HFSS) are subject to marketing restrictions and prohibited from occupying space near the checkout counter.

Sugar self-sufficiency seen possible with production of 2.4-2.5 million MT

The Philippines needs to produce about 2.4 to 2.5 million metric tons (MT) of sugar to be considered self-sufficient, a Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) official said. “Maybe we need to produce about 2.4 to 2.5 million metric tons to be called self-sufficient. So, our (objective) is really how to make the farmers improve their production,” SRA Acting Administrator and Chief Executive Officer Pablo Luis S. Azcona said at a Laging Handa briefing on Wednesday.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) needs to build resilience against future public health crises by raising investment in health and nutrition, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said. “Providing adequate healthcare services within and across the ASEAN community is a challenge, given interconnections of access to healthcare for everyone with poverty, water and sanitation, as well as with peace, stability, and governance,” the ADB said in a report.
